Bill Kreutzmann will once again be joined by both Scott Muraowski of Max Creek and Oteil Burbridge of the Allman Brothers for Jungle Jam, February 17th, 18th and 19th.
Jaco Costa Rica weather has been unusually cool this December and early January. Typically by this time of year cloud cover is spotty at most, but we have had a lot of fully partly cloudy and even a few overcast days. Consequently, it has been a little cooler than usual, reaching only the low 80s even in downtown Jaco where this time of year its often in the high 90s.
As an heir to the Cambell’s soup fortune, Lord of Axesmith, and undeniable legitimate rockstar after touring for 28 years to achieve that stauts, Phil has stayed in some pretty nice places. Here is what he had to say about Jaco hotel DoceLunas in his recent tripadvisor review:
“My self and Lady Axsmith were so lucky to be able to spend time at this heavenly hotel and place of relaxation. The five and a half acres really are used to their full potential with beautiful organic rooms all with state of the art technolgy.
Set in truly beautiful grounds,we had the option to eat either indoors or take advantage of the outside restaurant. The food was stunning everyday with constant compliments to the chef. The pool is totally original and perfecly fits in the the hotels ethos. The staff were totally helpful throughout our stay and the service was impeccable.
You won’t find waves like this in Jaco Costa Rica. But then unless you are one of the top 100 or so surfers in the world, you probably would not want to.
I wonder what happens on those wipeouts. That must take a lot of training to hold your breath for so long while you are getting whipped around like a rag doll.
If you are beginner coming to Jaco to surf, you will only be 10 to 30 yards out from where you can stand up and touch bottom with your head out of the water and the hold downs never last for more than 15 seconds. Still, a little breath holding pratice never hurts. When you are starting out and winded from paddling and then wiping out, 15 seconds can feel like a long time.
We are stoked to be hosting Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead and Max Creek. I figure because Bill has played over 2,000 shows averaging over 4 hours each for 10s to 100s of thousands of people, he has played live in front of more people more hours than anyone in the history of the world. How about that
her for over 40 years. So you could say they will be well rehearsed. It is such a great experience to see musicians with this level of familiarity and control exploring the music together through improvisation, and the jungle setting magnifies the good vibrations. This year we also have the Ryan Montbleau band opening and Zach Deputy, a one man band who will lay down a very rich multilayered anticipatory groove for you here – from his live performance at Bonaroo:
Magic Seaweed is a popular source of surf information globally. Central Pacific residents and people around Jaco Costa Rica generally seem to prefer Surfline, perhaps because local retired pro surfer Jim Hogan does their eyeball report and Sandpiper has a cam on the beach. In northern Costa Rica Magic Seaweed gets the most attention. I like to look at both surf forecasts to predict surf conditions in Jaco. Here is the animated surf forecast for Central Costa Rica from Magic Seaweed.

Google wants it to be easy for you to find hotels on the internet too and they do a pretty good job.
