The nearby Tarcoles River, just 15 minutes from Jaco Costa Rica hotel DoceLunas, is home to one of the world's largest populations of American crocodiles. Some of the ones here are as big as eighteen feet long! Taking a boat ride through the mangrove forest is a great way to see these prehistoric creatures. They haven't changed much in 200 million years.
Your guide for this adventure will be the aptly named, "Crocodile Man". He will show you where they live, how they raise their young, and how, and what they eat. He will also wade into the river from the boat to feed them by hand! It is an iincredible sight, and not for the faint of heart.
Depending on the time of year, "Crocodile Man" may dive into the water and bring out baby crocs for you to hold. This guy is crazy. You'll also see many birds and animals of the mangrove swamp.
